EXA Data & Mapping Services

Project Details

Project Name:  NOAA Query Manager Database Support
Main Client: National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through Premier Environmental
Date Started: February 2002
Date Completed:  On-going
Description: Exa has provided on-going support to NOAA’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Division (CPRD) staff to populate and maintain environmental databases for Query Manager and Marplot Tools (see http://mapping.orr.noaa.gov/website/portal/cprdtools/index.html) . One goal of the Los Angeles Contaminated Sediment Task Force (CSTF) was to promote public access and information sharing of the data collected for the project. The Port of Los Angeles is taking the lead to develop an interactive website that allows users to learn of the project, as well as to view or download data from the CSTF database. Exa was responsible for the creation of the database that contains sediment and tissue chemistry, toxicity, benthic infaunal, and water quality data. A pilot website has been developed and is now in review stage.
Exa tasks have included:
> Convert and incorporate identified sets of synoptic sediment chemistry, bioassay, and bioaccumulation data
> Maintaining a standard set of dictionary files for chemical names, species, and bioassay tests
> Provide support for data analysis routines and preparation of summary tables and graphs
> Conduct quality assurance/quality control checks of newly imported data
> Develop routines to automate steps required in handling data
