Implementation Plan - Migration of Historic Data Archives

Much of NOAA’s historic data lacked standardized information required by the new data-sharing platform (DIVER). Therefore, the detailed work plan included a process for reviewing and updating the data, as well as converting and integrating into the new format. An updated data management plan included generation of a backend, master set of data stored in Oracle™ MySQL with routines to update the regional datasets to ensure efficient and accurate queries. The conversion process also required cross-referencing location information allowing users to query by site, watershed, or other regional classifications. All this work was conducted concurrent with the addition of new data and ongoing data management procedures. Database routines were developed that updated historic content as well as study-level documentation. Finally, Exa was involved with testing the new structure and providing design recommendations to the DIVER development team.
